The first thing we have to realize is that we are weak, we might be able to do basic stuff on our own, but when things don’t really go as planned, that is when we come to realize how weak we are.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us that
“We are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
We acknowledge that we are too weak and that we need His power. The reason being that we are not fighting against flesh and blood, we are fighting against the principalities and evil forces on this world.
We might think that the person causing you headaches at work or at school is just doing it out of a whim, but only God knows the influences behind that persons actions.
Knowing that there is so much evil in this world, where can we find help? Within our own schemes, within our own wisdom? No. thats impossible.
We need a power greater than that of the world: and the only Person who has power over everything is God Almighty.
He is the one that knows how everything works in this world. He is the one that knows where the good stuff is. He is the one that knows the right path we should take in life. He is the one that knows exactly what we need in any situation in life.
We need to depend on Him, even more than the very air we depend on to live.
Psalm 18:2 says:
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
How do we get access to this Rock and Stronghold? It is through prayer.
God sees what you are going through, He sees how hard you are struggling and He wonders, “Why do my people not call upon me? Have they forgotten that I am their father? That I am their helper?”
Even Jesus(God in human form) lived a life of prayer. He was constantly going to pray(every occasion was good for Him to go and pray). And any time He came back from prayer His soul body and spirit were all strengthened. People could see a great difference in Him.
Humanly speaking we are not that different from Jesus. So if He could be strengthened and empowered through prayer, we also can be strengthened and empowered. We just need to ask.
1 John 5:14-15 puts it this way
“14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”
It is very simple, “Ask according to His will and you shall receive”. There is nothing else to it. As soon as you ask, you know its coming. Some things might take some time, because they need preparation. But regardless of how long it takes, its going to happen.
There is so much power in the prayer of one single person. Imagine what can happen when two or three are gathered in Gods name to pray.
Let me share a brief testimony with you. A few years ago when I was living in Italy, the church I used to fellowship in had many refugees coming from Africa and they fellowship with us.
Most of them were in a temporary accommodation, where they were given the bare minimum to survive. To make things worst, they couldn’t stay in those accommodations for more than a year(or around that amount of time). So they had to get jobs quickly and move out.
Unfortunately since they were refugees they did not have the required documents to work and rent in the country. So getting a job or even a place to rent was nearly impossible. And going back to their own country is a no-no, for most of them.
Our Pastor moved by this situation, decided that it was time we call unto God for help. He set out a whole week of intense fasting and prayers for this situation.
A few months later. The president of Italy at that time(Napolitano) gave a speech and said that he would have provided permanent stay documents for every refugee who asked for it.
The problem with that statement was that many politicians were extremely against it, so it was amended after a short while. But what had been said by him had to be honored. So our refugees took that opportunity to apply and receive those documents. And finally most of them got their life together, in an unknown country, with jobs, a home and peace of mind.
This is just a small event where God answered the prayers of His children on a national scale. There are so many testimonies in the history of humanity, where God intervened in major historical events based on the prayers of His children.
So do not be discouraged. God can do whatever you ask of Him according to His will. So go on and ask.
